Thanksgiving

During the Thanksgiving season, we give thanks for the blessings we’ve received. In spite of all the challenges we faced this year – economic hardships and natural disasters – we treasure what is most important in our lives: our families and our connections to those we love.

We at RemitHome wish you and your families a safe and happy Thanksgiving.

Typhoon Forecasts and Weather Advisories for the Philippines

The massive flooding caused by Typhoon Ondoy has affected millions of people across the Philippines and has made the country extremely vulnerable to follow-on typhoons. So when we hear about a new typhoon approaching the Philippines, we want to know

  • What is the path of the typhoon?
  • When will it hit?
  • How powerful is it?

The best source of information on Philippine typhoons is the PAGASA (Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical & Astronomical Services Administration) website (http://www.pagasa.dost.gov.ph/). Here is some important information provided by PAGASA:

Topic

Description

Typhoon Forecasts

When a typhoon is approaching the Philippines, you can get a graphic showing the path of the typhoon and its forecasted location 24, 48, and 72 hours from now.

On the PAGASA home page (http://www.pagasa.dost.gov.ph/), see the Tropical Cyclone Update section. If there is currently a typhoon in the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), there will be a link to graphics and information on the historical and projected path of the typhoon, strength (wind speed), movement, and current location.

Flood Advisories

This section of the website provides flood bulletins and advisories, hydrological forecasts, and dam status (reservoir water level, gate opening, outflow, etc.).

On the left-hand side of PAGASA home page (http://www.pagasa.dost.gov.ph/), click the FLOOD FORECAST link, and then click on Flood Bulletins/Advisories in the pop-up window. This will give you Flood Bulletins and General Flood Advisories by region.

Real-Time Weather

The Weather page provides a 24-hour general weather forecast for the Philippines as well as forecasts for selected Philippine cities and municipalities.

On the left-hand side of PAGASA home page (http://www.pagasa.dost.gov.ph/), click the REAL-TIME WEATHER link. This will open the Weather page, where you can click on Daily Weather for the general public weather forecast, or click on Philippine Cities to see the forecast for selected cities.
