The Philippine National Red Cross and Disaster Relief
Typhoon Ondoy (international codename Ketsana), followed by Typhoon Pepeng (Parma), have caused massive flooding, dislocation, and destruction in many parts of Luzon. The typhoons have affected almost 4 million people across the Philippines, of which almost 10% have sought shelter in evacuation centers.
The Philippine National Red Cross (PNRC) has been a major provider of emergency services and disaster relief following Typhoon Ondoy. The PNRC Disaster Management Services team is involved in water search and rescue for those still needing emergency help and it runs tracing services to assist in locating displaced and missing persons.
The PNRC is now heavily focused on post-disaster recovery. They support 192 evacuation centers and distribute relief goods, bottled water, and hot meals to affected families. The PNRC’s Community Health and Nursing Services team focuses on hygiene and health education, especially in the evacuation centers, with the goal of preventing the spread of disease, a major concern in the aftermath of these types of natural disasters.
The Philippine National Red Cross was officially established in 1947. While it is an independent voluntary relief organization, it adheres to the principles of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. The PNRC utilizes both professionals and thousands of volunteers to fulfill its mission of bringing timely, effective and compassionate humanitarian assistance for the most vulnerable without consideration of nationality, race, creed, gender, social status or political belief.

Ask remithome: Making Donations to an Organization
Question: How can I use remithome to send money to organizations in the Philippines involved in disaster relief? Your Add Recipient page seems to be set up to send money to individuals.
Answer: To send money to an organization, first gather the following information: the name of the organization, its address, and a contact phone number. In addition, since most organizations accept donations through bank accounts, be sure to note the bank name, bank branch, bank account number, account type (checking or savings), and currency (Philippine Peso or U.S. Dollar). This information is generally available on the organization’s website or by contacting the organization directly.
Once you have gathered the required information, log into your remithome account and go to the Add Recipients page, either by clicking the My Recipients button or the Add Recipients link. After you add the organization as a recipient, we will verify the organization’s information and notify you when the recipient is activated. Then you can make a donation by scheduling a transfer on the Send Money page.
To add your organization on the Add Recipients page, you can split the organization’s name using the First Name, Middle Name or Initial, and Last Name fields. Each field will accept up to 40 characters. As an example, to add The Philippine National Red Cross as a recipient, place “The Philippine National” in the First Name field and “Red Cross” in the Last Name field. You can leave the Middle Name or Initial field blank.
