A New Year, A New Decade!

Out with the old, in with the new! As we look forward to this New Year – and the new decade – we expect exciting opportunities and challenges. But before we jump too quickly ahead – discarding all we’ve accomplished so far – we should consider the gems we want to hold on to.

At remithome, when we look back on past issues of our newsletters, even we have been surprised by the breadth of topics covered. When we published our first monthly newsletter in October 2008, the world was in the middle of a global financial crisis. In that issue, we anticipated that our newsletter would provide information about new remithome service offerings, important U.S. and Philippine news and other useful ideas. We introduced a monthly “Ask remithome” feature where we answered customer questions about our remittance service. Since then, we’ve also discussed Exchange Rates, Typhoons, the Immigrant Experience, Travel to the Philippines, and much more!

In this special “Year in Review” newsletter, we touch on some of the diverse content from earlier issues. We’d also like your feedback. Which articles did you find most useful? What would you like to see more of? Are there other areas you would like us to cover?

Please click here to let us know what you think. We welcome your comments and suggestions.

remithome’s Monthly Newsletter – A Guide to Past Issues

Because our monthly newsletter has covered such a wide variety of topics, we are providing this guide to our first 15 issues. Hyperlinks to newsletter articles are grouped by topic and have a brief description of the content of the article. Those articles that contain extensive links to web resources are included under Helpful Web Resources as well as under the relevant topic area.

If you want to see past issues of the remithome newsletter, visit the Monthly Newsletter page (under the About Us tab on the remithome website). This page has links to each issue of the newsletter as well as to articles listed by topic.

For answers to specific questions about remithome, visit the Ask remithome page (under the Services tab on the remithome website). This page has links to the Ask remithome section of the newsletter.

Ask remithome: When to Use a Recurring Instruction

Question: I send money to my family every month. Can I use a Recurring Instruction?

Answer: You can use a Recurring Instruction if you need to send the same amount of money
to the same recipient(s) on a regular basis.

Most remithome members will want to send One-Time Transfers, where they schedule a
transaction for single time period, for processing Today (by 2:00 PM, Pacific Time) or for
a Future Date. Transactions can be sent to one recipient or to multiple recipients.

Recurring Instructions are intended for frequent and regular remitters who want to save time and money by sending the same amount of money to the same recipient(s) on a regular basis.

You can use the table below to decide whether to use a One-Time Transfer or a
Recurring Instruction.

Service Feature

One-Time Transfer

Recurring Instruction

Flexibility

Maximum Flexibility – With a One-Time Transfer, you can send different amounts of money to different recipients at different times.

Less Flexibility – With a Recurring Instruction because the same dollar amount is being sent to the same recipient on a regular basis (weekly, monthly, or some other frequency). The message to the recipient will be the same for every transfer.

Time

Takes More Time – Sending multiple One-Time Transfers takes a little more time since each transaction is scheduled separately for each time period.

Saves Time – Setting up a Recurring Instruction saves time, because transactions are sent automatically at the frequency you specify (e.g., weekly, monthly). No need to remember to send your regular transfers.

Cost

$10 for a Standard Philippine Peso Transfer to one recipient.

$8 per transfer for a Standard Philippine Peso Transfer to one recipient.
